When it comes to treating our dogs, most of us want the same thing, a snack that makes them happy and keeps them healthy. While traditional dog biscuits and treats are fine in moderation, there’s a growing trend towards natural treats – things like hairy cow ears, chicken feet, and buffalo horns.
Not only do these offer more nutrition, but they also satisfy your dog’s natural instincts in a way that processed treats can’t.

🌿 Why Choose Natural Dog Treats?
- Less processed → No artificial colors, preservatives, or fillers.
- Nutrient-rich → Many natural treats contain vitamins, minerals, and protein.
- Supports dental health → Chewing tough textures helps reduce plaque and tartar.
- Mentally stimulating → Gnawing on a real chew keeps your dog busy and satisfied.
My 2 only have natural treats, chicken feet and hairy bunny ears are the favourites with buffalo horns being the long lasting winners. Plus the odd bit off our plates too if I’m being honest!
🐄 Hairy Cow Ears
- Great for digestion → The hair acts as a natural “cleanser” for your dog’s digestive system.
- Low in fat → A leaner option compared to pig ears.
- Long-lasting → Perfect for keeping power chewers occupied.
💡 Tip: Introduce slowly if your dog hasn’t had hairy treats before, natural treats are bigger (than a little treat from a packet) and richer so can be a lot for more delicate tummies.

🐓 Chicken Feet
- Rich in glucosamine & chondroitin → Supports joint health.
- Crunchy texture → Dogs love the snap!
- Suitable for most dogs → Just supervise to make sure they chew properly.
💡 Tip: Chicken feet are especially good for senior dogs who need joint support.
🐃 Buffalo Horns
- Super tough → One of the longest lasting chews you can buy.
- All-natural → No additives, just horn.
- Great for teeth → Scrapes away plaque as your dog chews.
⚠️ Note: Don’t choose a horn too big for your dog to get his mouth around and brace for the smell if they get going on it! They’re essentially keratin (same substance as our hair) so it can smell a little like burnt hair when they really go at it.

🦴 Are Natural Treats Safe for All Dogs?
- Always supervise your dog when introducing a new chew.
- Make sure the size is appropriate for their breed and chewing style.
- If your dog has sensitive digestion, introduce treats slowly and one at a time.
Alongside the natural chews we use little puppy training treats as you don’t want to be dishing up multiple chicken feet in a training session!
🎁 Final Thoughts
Natural dog treats are a fantastic way to reward your pup while supporting their health. From joint friendly chicken feet to long lasting buffalo horns, there’s a natural option to suit every dog.
Your dog gets a tasty, instinct satisfying chew and you get peace of mind knowing it’s good for them. 🐾
